God & Spirit are only a phone call away…
Have you ever woken up and just laid there, staring at the ceiling and trying to figure out who to talk to? As if the ceiling would open up and those that you love and miss, would cascade down to sit and talk with you once again in this very moment, in only a thought. Or God himself would just come lay beside you with a listening ear. Sometimes there are days where we never want to overextend our welcome of blessings, and we never want to ask too much, but there are days where we don’t know exactly what we need to do, therefore we are looking everywhere else trying to find the hope, the answers, the guidance, the wisdom… something to just shift. In doing so not knowing who we can turn to, God, loved ones, etc. It’s like in those moments we sometimes just feel so alone, that we tend to just tune out instead of inward.
It’s like when we pray or make a wish, we know it’s going somewhere, and my thought and question used to be, “Who’s gets picked to be granted or given?” I had a theory in my youth that only the good got answered, or that you had to be lucky or from a good family, you must have had to be someone or have something because it seemed my wishes, and my prayers weren’t always answered, or so I thought.
It’s like a flip of a coin, maybe it will come to fruition, maybe it won’t. But do we think that God is a gambling man? In reality, he is. He takes a chance on each of us, every time we stumble, every time we fall, every time we do dumb, irresponsible things. He takes chances on us when we have left him time and time again, and holds the door open for us when we want to come back in, not knowing If we are going to stay or go this time, if we are going to run away again, or if we are going to go down another path that will steer us away from him.
So why is it so hard for us to take a gamble on him? When we lay in our bed and we have so much time to talk to God, to Spirit, we tend to scroll on our phones, we tend to run away from the truth that we need to see about ourselves, and we tend to lock ourselves away in an alternate space of time (the internet) in a box where in every swipe we go deeper and deeper down a hole that doesn’t have any light within it. No matter how many funny cat and dog videos you watch, you are still avoiding and the light is still dimming because there’s no real connection between our phones or social media.
We may work our tails off day in and day out at work, for our family and our friends, but who are we doing it for? For ourselves? For the fact that we know we have to do it, for the fact of showing face and grace and it’s all we know. It’s a merry-go-round of repetitive avoidance of the big man upstairs. We sprinkle a prayer here and there, throw a “Can you please help me” again here and there, and we go about our day. I think so much of how I grew up; we’d wake and be grateful and we’d go to bed giving thanks again. The truth of most of our lives today is, that we wake rushed and late, we go to bed trying to numb the mind and to make meaningless connections with strangers we don’t even know based on a picture, a meme, a video, etc. Escaping, becoming sheep, while lost in a vast world of no substance. For many, it’s like Groundhog’s day, and yet we still expect to have all our needs met, and just given to us on a whim.
Let me mention I am here writing this, because I too am guilty of this from time to time, and I woke today with it heavy on my heart, that I am going and I want to become better and not always give so much through how my prayers, my thoughts to God are delivered. Trying to keep up in a world that doesn’t always fit your beliefs is even harder, as we all want to fit in, to be liked, to have connections, but at what cost? Where did the real connections go?
I know God is in my heart, but where am I in his? I am at the center of it, as are all of you, but we tend to think when times are bad that we are alone. We tend to push back and give up on bonding stronger within and outward with him and Spirit, in the times when we feel things aren’t moving. We do this because some of us are so headstrong, I kid, but we tend to do it because we feel ‘if I don’t fix this no one will’. Now that is a very, very true statement. But if we would take the time to truly show up, to truly be present, to truly acknowledge not only our gratitude but the fact that God has a million helpers, including your loved ones, that things are working just not always on your time.
That the ones that we give so much time to don’t even know how to pick up a phone and call, they tend to message you on every other platform, before ever thinking about how hearing your voice would add energy to their day. That you get more happy birthdays in the form of a text than those trying to make something meaningful out of something as simple as a call, a good ol’ fashioned card. This is just like with God, could you take a moment to write a note to him? Instead of just sending a fleeting thought up when things are at their worst, hoping that you jump to the front of the line in his call cue? True connections take time, and unfortunately in this day and age, everyone either feels they don’t have enough time for this or that, but can always seemingly make time for the things they want. Let me say it again for those of you who just missed that, (in the voice of my pastor Lance Watson), you can always seemingly make time for the things you want.
So those things you want, the things you think you deserve, God knows, he knows what is in your best interest, he does! He will put barriers, he will put walls, but why are so many willing to jump through hurdles to jump those walls, the walls with the big red flags on top… yeah those. Willing to tackle those, get bumps, bruises, and scrapes to jump those, but stuck on how to jump through those same hoops for yourself, to make a solid and true connection with God and Spirit?
I promise you that the silent parts that don’t feel are moving, are the time when the inner work on self needs to come back to the forefront and bring new light and new energy into your life. When things aren’t moving, you are finding those moments to trust and pray, and still doing some of the work on your end and the rest of being taken care of. A reminder to give 50% and God and Spirt will pick up the other 50%. It’s time to do your work, whether that’s meditating, working out, or calling a few places to get some new ideas or connections. Maybe it’s taking a bit more time for your friends and family and doing things with them that can better the both of you. Raise those vibrations by connecting inward, but out in the world! Yes, make the connections on both levels!
But when you are lying in bed staring at the ceiling, trying to remember who you need to talk to, go inward, find the part of you that has belief, that knows no matter who you think you are talking to, that someone of the light, someone above is listening and there to help guide the way! That instead of going in a box, scrolling, avoiding, and just giving it a go. Talk, give it up to the energy of above, give it to the heavens, and allow someone beautiful up there to help.
Shifting the mindset that we don’t need to know exactly who we are addressing will allow you the freedom to just trust it, if your belief in your heart is there, give it to God, your loved ones, to the heavens. (I use that phrase because as mentioned before God has a lot of helping hands up there.). Trust that in time, the answers, the guidance, all of it will show itself. But until then be present, show up, give to yourself and the process. Without you being in the forefront, how can anything move? As much as you trust in your phone being there every day, trust in the connection of all those above, only being a phone call away.
With love, from me
